The Grand National 2018

Here we are at the largest horse race in the world, the Grand National!

First off, is to rule out those horses that don't really have a chance, those carrying too much weight, those that are too old, and more importantly, those who have no proven ability over 3 miles, this left me with these:

  • BLAKLION - he is a very fine animal, however he is carrying a lot of weight this year at 11-10. Only had 3 races since the National last year, coming 2nd over 3 1/2 miles and won at Aintree in December on Heavy which puts him in good stead for today'srace.
  • ANIBALE FLY - a favourite in the odds, but doesn't really have much of a record over 3m so will find it tough today.
  • THE LAST SAMURI - a contender who has had 4 races since coming 16th in the big race last year, has come 3rd, 4th, 2nd and 2nd carrying plenty of weight over 3m so can do it today.
  • TOTAL RECALL - doesn't generally travel over 3m so will find it a long, long race today.
  • TIGER ROLL - does the distance, winning at Cheltenham last time out over 3m 6f carrying 11-4 on Soft so is capable of doing it.
  • VIEUX LION ROUGE - another contender, goes the distance on Heavy, won over 3m 4f at Haydock beating BLAKLION, came 6th here last year, may go all the way this time!
  • SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT - usually races around the 3m mark or less, but does well, came 3rd over 4m last year at Ayr.
  • BAIE DES ILES - does race over 3m on Heavy, coming 3rd last time out over 3m 4f, but not raced over 4m so will struggle today.
  • HOUBLON DES OBEAUX - a marathon runner from France who only races over 3m and 4m, came 10th last year, but not really done anything of note since, PU over 4m at Newcastle last time out.
  • MILANSBAR - does the distance and seems to be coming into form for this race with a 1st at 3m 5f, a 5th over 4m on Heavy, and coming 2nd last time out over 4m 2f, seems good preparation for todays race.
